WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. – Zelda M. Parker, 82, of West Columbia, formerly of Springfield, died at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, at Agape Community Hospice in West Columbia.
She was born Nov. 24, 1924, in Galesburg, the daughter of Hubert and Jesse Frakes James. She married Harold L. Parker in 1945, and he preceded her in death Nov. 22, 1988. She also was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Anita Scherer.
Mrs. Parker grew up in Carthage, then she move to Macomb and lived in Springfield from 1958 to 1997, and currently West Columbia, S.C., since 1997.
She worked at various law firms in Springfield and also retired from the Illinois secretary of state’s office after 20 years of service.
She was a member of First Christian Church, Business and Professional Women’s Association, YWCA and Christian Women’s Fellowship. Her hobbies included bowling, gardening and water sports.
Surviving are a son, James L. (wife, Barbara) Parker of West Columbia, S.C.; a stepson, Arthur L. Parker of Springfield; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Alexander of Denver and Eilene Cisneros of New Mexico; a brother, Keith James of Chandler, Ariz.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from noon until time of services at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, at Staab Funeral Home with the Rev. Rebecca Sundquist officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
