Woodrow J. Shadid, Sr., 96, of Springfield died at 3:10 am, Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on June 29, 1922 in Springfield to Sam and Samia (Wehba) Shadid. He married Crystal Frank in 1962.
He is survived by his wife, Crystal; one daughter, Lisa (Mike) Koleske of Williamsville; one son, Woodrow J. (Luann) Shadid, Jr. of St. Jacob; granddaughter, Sara Shadid; three sisters, Dorothy Bahre of Sherman, Genevieve Kuykendall of Springfield and Barbara Ward of Valdosta, GA; one brother, Phillip Shadid of Sherman and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Mitch, John and William Shadid and three sisters, Linda Naufel, Gladys Walton and Ann Herro.
He was a member of Historic Grace Lutheran Church.
He served in the United States Army during World War II and was awarded 4 Campaign Stars for European Campaign with the 266th Field Artillery and was a life member of American Legion Post 32.
Mr. Shadid was the owner of Shadid’s Bookmart for many years.
Visitation: 4:00 – 6:00 pm, Monday, October 8, 2018 at Historic Grace Lutheran Church.
Funeral Service: 6:30 pm, Monday, October 8, 2018 at Historic Grace Lutheran Church with Reverend Thomas Christell officiating.
Graveside Service: 1:00 pm, Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Lutheran Food Pantry.

My sincere condolences to the Shadid Family. The books I bought at Shadid's Book Mart were a cornerstone of my education and my imagination growing up. Springfield was blessed to have this store, and I will always be grateful to Mr. Shadid for creating it.
