Wilmer V. ‘Bill’ Harney, 81, of Springfield, died at 9:35 p.m., Friday, December 3, 2010 at Regency Nursing Care Residence. He was born October 2, 1929 in Murrayville, IL to Arthur and Maple Hanger Harney. He married his wife of 60 years, Doris J. Lacy on April 9, 1950 and she survives. His parents and three sisters, Hazel Powell, Florence Clark and Jane Crotchett preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Susan Scott of Rhome, TX; three sons, Stephen W. (Analina) Harney of St. Petersburg, FL, Roger V. (Brenda) Harney and Kevin W. (Darlene) Harney both of Springfield, ten grandchildren, three great-grandsons and one great granddaughter; three sisters, Aline Love of Whitehall, IL, Jeanette (Benjamin) Dionne of Springfield, VA and Alice White of Springfield; three brothers, Arthur (Evelyn) Harney of Kentucky, Robert (Cynthia) Harney of Clinton, IL, and Frank (LeaAnn) Harney of Williamsville and several nieces and nephews.
Bill was a resident of Springfield since 1952 and prior to that he resided in Whitehall, IL. He was the owner of Dorwil Distributors for 8 years He worked for various state agencies from 1962- 1975 and then in 1983 he began working for CMS as a Data Technician. He retired in 2002. He was a United States Army veteran. Bill was a member of Grace Bible Chapel.
Visitation: 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home. Pastor Philip Dossett will officiate.
