Wilma J. Ulak

Wilma J. Ulak of Springfield passed peacefully into eternal glory Saturday evening, September 9, 2017 at the Memorial Hospice unit at Heritage Manor. She was born on January 22, 1921 in Auburn, IL to Fred and Rachel (Bess) Gleeson. She was preceded in death by her husband, I. James Ulak who died on August 14, 1991.

Wilma was the mother and stepmother of four children, Bernie (wife, Randy) Wiseman of Springfield, Kay (husband, Dan) Tomlin of Farmer City, IL, Jim (wife, Kim) Ulak of Washington, D.C. and Dennis (wife, Nanette) Ulak of Houston, Texas. There are six grandchildren; Brian Wiseman, Martha Wiseman Bartlett, Troy Tomlin, Jill Tomlin Hays, Michael Ulak, and Claire Ulak. There are also nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by two nieces and their extended families.

Wilma retired from the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration.

She was very active at Woodside United Methodist Church/Cotton Hill United Methodist Church. She volunteered as a tour guide at the Dana-Thomas House for many years. She also was an usher at Sangamon Auditorium at the (Sangamon State University) University of Illinois Springfield.

Wilma will be cremated.

Memorial Gathering: 9:30 – 11 am, Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Cotton Hill United Methodist Church, Springfield.

Memorial Service: 11 am, Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Cotton Hill United Methodist Church with Sharon Treptow and Steve Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Auburn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Cotton Hill United Methodist Church.
