SPRINGFIELD – William R. Milner, 83, of Springfield died at 6:44 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at St. John’s Hospital.
He was born Sept. 28, 1925, in Detroit, the son of William and Mildred Repp Milner. He married Alice Ann Chrysler on Sept. 9, 1949. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Charlotte Moran.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Ann Milner of Springfield; two sons, James (fiancee, Pam Gibbs) Milner of Springfield and Robert (wife, Gail) Milner of Springfield; a daughter, Patricia (husband, James) Dunn of Springfield; five grandchildren, Cortney (husband, Ryan) Foster, James (wife, Sarah) Milner, Kristin (husband, Andrew Lansdale) Schnelten, Katherine Dunn and Aaron Gibbs; great-grandchildren, Charles, Isaac and Alasdair; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth McLaughlin; a brother-in-law, Ralph Chrysler and William (wife, Patsy) Chrysler; and several nieces, nephews, cousins; extended family and friends.
William was a resident of Springfield since 1967. He was the underwriting manager for Aetna Life & Casualty for 38 years. He retired in 1987. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, National Underwriters Association and was active in community volunteer work. He was a graduate of Albion College in Albion, Mich. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, serving from 1945 to 1946. He shared his lifelong love of the family cabin in Ontario, Canada, with his family and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, at Christ Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Dr. Gregory Tournoux officiating. Burial will be at Rochester Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church in Springfield or Christ Church in Lion’s Head, Ontario, Canada.
