William P. Leady, Sr., 87, of Springfield, died at 7:55 a.m. Sunday, August 21, 2011 at St. John’s Hospice. He was born August 14, 1924 in Springfield, IL to Phillip Bernard and Gertrude M. Welle Leady. He married Carolyn A. Theilen on May 29, 1948 and she preceded him in death on January 15, 1972. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a son, Thomas Leady, one sister Theresa Skaggs and one brother Robert Leady.
Survivors include three daughters, Sharon (Edwin) Taapken of Petersburg, Jacqueline Lomprez of Springfield and Patricia (Marc) Josephson of Odenton, MD, three sons, William P. (Ellen) Leady, Jr. of London Mills, IL, Daniel (Loretta) Leady of Monticello, KY and Larry Leady of London Mills, IL, 16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren.
William was a US Navy veteran and also served in the Army National Guard. He retired from the Illinois State Police Academy in 1992. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Springfield.
Visitation: 5-7 pm, Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4:45 p.m.
Funeral Mass: 9 a.m., Friday, August 26, 2011 at St. Joseph Church with Monsignor Thomas Holinga officiating. Burial will be in Chatham Memorial Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail.
