William J. Tucker, 88, of Springfield, died at 6:40 pm, Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at his home. He was born February 2, 1929 in Edinburg, to William G. and Ruth Patheal Tucker. He married Wanda “Joan” Collins on February 17, 1951 and she preceded him in death on May 10, 2002.
Survivors include two sons, William “Bill” Tucker of Godfrey and Owen “Jay” (Vicki) Tucker of Washington; three grandchildren, Jennifer Tucker, Damian Tucker and Cody Tucker; one great grandson, Isaac Snyder-Tucker; one sister, Betty Waszak of Ogden, UT and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife and one brother, John Tucker.
William was a US Marine veteran. He retired from CILCO after thirty-eight years of service. He was an avid Cardinal fan and managed the Budweiser tent at the Illinois State Fair. He was a member of the Navy Club for thirty years and helped in the organization of the Sangamon County Citizens Police Academy.
Memorial Gathering: 9:30 – 11:30 am, Monday, April 3, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Memorial Service: 11:30 am, Monday, April 3, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, with Roger Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Sangamon County Inter-Veterans Burial Detail and the United States Marines.
