William (Bill) Harold Wilson, 73, of Springfield, died at 8:58am on Monday, April 23, 2018 at his home. He was born on April 14, 1945 in Springfield to John and Myrtle (Hayes) Wilson. He married Martha L. Humphrey on December 24, 1964 at Roanoke Baptist Church in Springfield, IL.
He is survived by his wife, Martha; three children; Kathy (Alec) Clyne and Crystal (Chet Bright) Wilson, both of Springfield, and Kurt (Jan Sheehan) Wilson of Grovetown, GA, nine grandchildren; Seth, Brett, and Erin Clyne, Carolyn and William Bright, and Quinn, Claire, Grant, and Evelyn Wilson; one sister; Velma (Don) Claypool of New Berlin; two brothers, Albert (Frances) Wilson of Williamsville and Tom Wilson of New Berlin; one sister-in-law, Theresa Wilson of Athens.
He was preceded in death by two children, Tammi and Terri Wilson; one grandchild, Giovanna Bright; sister and brother-in-law, Edith (Rob) Wilson Decker; three brothers, Donny, Robert, and David Wilson; sister, Mary Ann Wilson, and two sisters-in-law, Diane and Marilyn Wilson.
Bill was a United States Army veteran and served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970. He worked at the State of Illinois as a sales tax examiner/analyst and retired in 2002.
He was a member of the VFW Post 755, American Legion Post 32, Boy Scouts of America, and actively supported the Riverton Athletic Club summer baseball programs.
Visitation: 4 – 7 pm, Monday, April 30, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 10 am, Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Pastor Bennie Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
