William Earl Bennett

December 14, 1947 - January 27, 2017

William Earl Bennett, 69, of Springfield, passed away Friday, January 27, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born December 14, 1947, to Arthur and Margaret (Rodemer) Bennett. He married Theresa Rotherham on October 8, 1988, and she survives.

Also surviving are his daughter, Lindsey (Adam Larrison) Bennett of Avon, IN; two step-children: Dennis Sanderfield of Springfield and Bridgett Redman of Springfield; three brothers: David A. Bennett of Leland Grove, James A. (Leslie) Bennett of St. Louis, MO, Steven B. (Sandhya) Bennett of Falls Church, VA, several grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bill was a lifelong resident of Springfield. He was owner and operator of Mr. B’s IGA, Old Lux, and Bernie & Betty’s. He was also a United States Air Force veteran.
He was a great friend and uncle to many, and loved spending time with his family and friends.

Memorial Gathering: 5-7 pm, Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Graveside Service: 10 am, Friday, February 3, 2017 at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Sangamon County Inter-Veterans Burial Detail.

A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association.

It was always a pleasure to see Bill, he was very kind, loving, & a friend to all. He will be sadly missed, & lovingly remembered. Many prayers for all.

Theresa and family: Please accept my most sincere condolences on your loss. Without any doubt, Bill was among the best. He was intelligent, compassionate, generous, had a great sense of humor and treated everyone with dignity and respect. Unfortunately, I rarely saw him much after B&B was sold, but I will never forget how great he was and always be thankful for the opportunity to have known him. I can only imagine your pain and loss, but I hope it will soon be replaced with the great memories of such a wonderful person. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Theresa and the Bennett family. My heart felt condolences to you all. I worked for Bill at Mr. B's IGA and we where friends prior to that. I had a lot of fun times with Bill playing golf and just hanging out with him. My fondest memory is when his daughter lost her pet bird and Bill and I went to get a new bird to replace the one she lost. We got the bird and pretended that we caught the bird out side and put it in the cage. Well when I started to get the bird in the cage it got away. We both looked at each other and thought, oh my gosh. It was my fault so I drove back to the pet shop and bought another one while Bill was in the back yard whistling and prentending he was trying to get the bird. I got back and put the bird in the cage and everything was fine. We had a lot of fun times together. I enjoyed going to Bernies and Betty's and catching up with him and Theresa. He will be missed.

Very sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I always liked Bill and missed seeing him after he left Bernie & Betty's. My condolences to Theresa, Dennis and the rest of his family. Bill was one of the good guys!!!
