William “Bill” David Sweeton, Sr
SPRINGFIELD – William “Bill” David Sweeton, Sr., 87, of Springfield, died Saturday, June 23, 2007 at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born April 27, 1923 in Springfield, IL, the son of Charles and Virginia Strickland Sweeton. He married Anne Elizabeth Kaydus on April 7, 1945; she preceded him in death on March 4, 2000. His parents; three sisters, Helen Sciliano, Hazel Dobrovolny, and Alma Jean Six; one half-sister, Chris Osage; and one half-brother, Jim Lemons, also preceded him in death.
Mr. Sweeton was a cement finisher at Local 539 for 33 years. He also formerly worked with Laborers Union 477. He was a member of St. Cabrini Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army Signal Corps, 7th Air Force from 1941-1945.
Survivors: one son, Bill Sweeton, Jr. (companion, JoAnn McCauley) of Springfield; two grandchildren, Kelly Anne Sweeton and Julie (husband, Duane) Warrens; two half-sisters, Jackie Carter of Springfield and Pat East of Baxter Springs, KS; and six half-brothers, Jerry Lemons of Springfield and James, Jack, Gordy, Bill, and Chuck Lemons, all of Kansas.
Graveside services will be held at 12:00 noon, Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Reverend Richard Chiola officiating. Burial: Camp Butler National Cemetery, where Sanagmon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors. Staab Funeral Home of Service.
