William “Bill” Nelson Lester, 85, of Springfield, died at 10:20am, Sunday, November 18, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Home. He was born on May 5, 1927 in Vandalia, Illinois, to William and Bernice Scott Lester.
Surviving are one daughter, Rosalie (Richard) Robinson of Guilford, CT; one son, Donald Lester of Blytheville, AR; three grandsons, Michael and Steven Anderson, and Sam Lester; one great grandson, Niko Anderson; one sister, Sharon (Bob) Mosler of Decatur; one brother, Richard (Marsha) Lester of North Carolina and his beloved friend LaDonna Ferrando.
Preceding him in death were he parents; his first wife, Rosalie in 1977; his second wife Betty in 1999; one brother, John Lester and one sister Mary Gross.
Bill was a graduate of Vandalia High School where he excelled in basketball. He went on to serve in the US Navy during WWII. He was the owner of Lester Plumbing and Heating for 30 years. He was a member of Springfield Rod and Reel Club; was a life member of The Elks Club; Eagles Club and Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #137. In his spare time, Bill could be found bowling on the team that his company sponsored every year; out fishing or cheering on his favorite baseball team, the Cardinal’s.
Memorial Gathering: 10-11 am, Friday, November 23, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home.
Memorial Service: 11 am, Friday, November 23, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Milton Bost officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery at a later date.
In Lieu of Flowers memorials may be given to Chatham Baptist Church.
