William B. Harrell

William Harrell died peacefully on April 7, 2015, with his wife and daughter by his side, at Edward Hospital in Naperville, IL. He was born in 1929 in Springfield, IL, the son of Howard and Clara Harrell. His entire career was with the State Journal-Register, retiring in 1992. He married Polly Brockman in 1950; she died in 1964 after a 9-year illness. He later married Margaret Kirby.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Robert W., and brother Howard E.

He enjoyed bowling, golfing, the theatre, and spending winters in Florida, where he and his wife had many wonderful friends from various parts of the United States and Canada. He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan. Above all, he loved spending time with his two grandsons and granddaughter. He was a member of St. Francis Assisi Catholic Church in Bolingbrook, IL, the Deep Creek Florida Elks, and the Graphic Arts and Communication Union. He was a proud veteran who served his country in the Army during the Korean War. In the late 1940’s, he was lead singer for the “High Tones” trio, who performed locally.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret, daughter, Vicki J. Adamski, grandsons Jackson and Kevin Adamski and granddaughter Joslyn Adamski, sister Helen Smith, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 4 – 7 pm, Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home.

Funeral Mass: 8:30 am, Monday, April 13, 2015 at St. Agnes Church with Reverend Robert Jallas officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
