Walter "Dale" Shoemaker, Sr.

July 4, 1951 - October 25, 2022

Walter “Dale” Shoemaker, Sr., 71, of Springfield, died at 11:25 am, Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at The Bridge Care Suites. He was born July 4, 1951 in Springfield to Frank and Esther Arnold Shoemaker. He married Connie Case on September 29, 2012 and she survives.

Also surviving are four children; Walter “Dale” (Angela) Shoemaker, Jr. of Divernon, Bobby Jo (Joe) Martin, Mary (Todd) Robinson and Michael (Synimin) Shoemaker all of Springfield; twelve grandchildren, Andrew (Kelsey) Robinson, Jacob Robinson, Ian Robinson, Joseph (Abigail) Martin, Isaiah Martin, Parker and Trenton Shoemaker, Sierra, Destiny, Dylan, Brendyn, and Joshua Garlo; one great grandson, Brayden Robinson and one great granddaughter, Lily Behl; several step brothers and sisters and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step sister, Mary June Garvin.

Dale was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of Sacred Heart Church. He was employed by the State Journal-Register for 22 years in transportation and logistics.

Visitation: 2:00-4:00 pm, Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield.

Funeral Service: 10:00 am, Monday, October 31, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

My Uncle Dale was an awesome man I loved him so much I remember spending a lot of time at his house growing up. I was his rainbow that's what he called me forever. I'll miss you Uncle Dale. Love you gone but never forgotten til I see you again

I have many memories of my Uncle Dale. I don't know where to start. I know one thing Mark and I are going to miss him. He was more then an amazing uncle He was our friend. This is not good bye. We will see you again this just makes heaven more special .we love you and will miss you

I'm so lost for words you watched me grow up you were like a grandpa to me also my grandpa's best friend. I'm going to miss you so much. You taught me so much from replacing every door in your house to how to properly roll up a garden hose we had so many laughs and some tears. you left us all to soon. My condolences to Dale’s family. He was a very special friend. We were the neighborhood watch folks. He watched my side of the street and I watched his side of the street lol. He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace my friend.
