Vivian Roberta Skaggs, 77, of Springfield, died at 8:18 am, Thursday, November 10, 2011. She was born October 3, 1934 in Springfield to Vernon and Emilee Black Duke.
She is survived by five daughters, Nancy (Butch) Homeier of Edinburg, Penny (Ernie) Williams of Palmer, Elizabeth (David) Smith of Merrillville, IN, Gail Weiskopf and Christine (John) Phillips both of Springfield; three sons, Randy (Lyn), Kash (Rhonda) and Jeff Skaggs all of Springfield; ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two brothers, her twin, Robert (Marge) Duke and Paul D. (Nancy) Duke both of Springfield and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her parents and three sisters, Dorothie Sumpter Verna “Babe” Layton and Martha Jean Kasalko preceded her in death.
Roberta was a charter member of South Side Christian Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for 57 years in the Beginner’s Department and also volunteered at Lincoln Land teaching adult readers for 12 years and was a member of the Eastern Star, Lilla Rookh Lodge.
She was a homemaker and retired from the State of Illinois Department of Rehabilitation Services after 23 years of service.
Visitation: 4-7 pm, Monday, November 14, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home.
Lie-in-State: 10-11 am, Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at South Side Christian Church
Funeral Service: 11 am, Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at South Side Christian Church with Bob Green officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grundy Mountain Mission School.
