SPRINGFIELD – Vito Sodaro, 85, of Springfield died at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at St. John’s Hospice.

He was born July 1, 1922, in Springfield, the son of Natale and Maria Gianmarinaro Sodaro.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Louis Sodaro; a niece, Angela Sodaro; and two great-nephews, Mark Lewis and Nicholas Crifasi.

He is survived by two sisters, Angela Ciaccio and Mary (husband, Anthony) Crifasi, both of Springfield; five nieces, Mary Alsup, Angela Foley, Roseann Painter, Laura Crifasi and Natalie (husband, Jay) Bales, all of Springfield; three nephews, Joe (wife, Deborah) Ciaccio, Nick (wife, Susan) Ciaccio and Michael (wife, Rita) Crifasi, all of Springfield; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and several cousins.

He was a lifelong resident of Springfield. He worked for Pillsbury Mills for 38 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. He was a member of St. Agnes Church. He graduated from Lanphier High School where he lettered in football.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2008, at St. Agnes Church. Funeral mass will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Robert Jallas officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
