SPRINGFIELD – Virginia Marie Wilkey, 89, a Quincy native, of Springfield, died at 1:53 p.m. on her birthday, Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center, after a brief hospitalization.
She was born Oct. 4, 1919, in Quincy, the only daughter of Elmer and Anna Dierkes Hoener. She married Clyde Willard Wilkey on July 23, 1949.
A resident of Springfield since 1949, she worked briefly as a cashier at the old Graham’s Cafeteria and then spent the rest of her life being a full-time homemaker.
She was a member of First Congregational Church and served as a deaconess, Flower City Chapter No. 152, Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron in 1986.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Naoma Hoener, of Quincy; nieces, nephews, cousins, and long-time friends and caregivers, Gary and Kathy Miller of Springfield.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, husband and three brothers.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at First Congregational Church, 2100 South Bates Ave., with the Rev. Brian Damrow officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home. An Eastern Star service will be at 6:45 p.m. She will lie in state from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at First Congregational Church.
