SPRINGFIELD – Virginia M. Davis, 87, of Springfield died at 1:50 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 16, 1920, in Auburn on grandfather Mau’s farm, the daughter of Henry and Lillian Lewis Mau. She married James W. Davis on Feb. 20, 1941.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Eileen Kelly; and a brother, John Mau.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Carol (Nick) Orlandini of Albuquerque, N.M.; a son, Jim (Toni) Davis of Springfield; two grandchildren, Michelle (Fred) Lamkey of Riverton and Brent (Laura) Davis of Springfield; four great-grandchildren, Lainy, Kaily, Jack and Drew; a sister, Leona (Tom) Varns of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was a resident of Springfield most of her life and was owner and operator of J & J Campground in Shelbyville and Edgewood Mobile Home Park. She was a member of West Side Christian Church. She was also a member of Beau Knot class and Charlie’s Angels Senior Group. Virginia and her best friend Betty Roland belonged to a Bunco club for 70 years. She loved to read, do crossword puzzles, crochet and needlepoint. She was a wonderful baker, especially of chocolate chip cookies, cinnamon rolls and bread.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm. Thursday, June 19, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home. Lie in state will be from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2008, at West Side Christian Church with funeral service beginning at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Charles Duggins officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Virginia’s name to West Side Christian Church.
