Virginia Frances Madonia, 92, of Springfield, died at 5:00 am, Sunday, March 13, 2011 at her daughter’s residence. She was born October 7, 1918 in Springfield, IL to Paul and Maria Antonia Mezzapelle Scaduto of Montevago Province Agrigento Sicily, Italy. She married Joseph Madonia on August 2, 1941 and he preceded her in death on January 21, 1976. Virginia was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother: Frank Scaduto and two sisters: Cheterina Mayes and Rose Mary Giacomini.
Surviving are two daughters; Patricia (husband, Joseph Klauzer) Elliott of Springfield, Rosemary (husband, Charles) Brackhan of Petersburg; 5 grandchildren Joe Brackhan, Charlie Brackhan, Andrea Elliott, Elana Elliott and Nicholas Elliott; three great-grandchildren Thomas, Grace and Mason; three sisters Dominica Vespa, Mary Ann Bart and Josephine (husband, Sevet) Madonia all of Springfield; one brother Nicholas (wife, Agnes) Scaduto of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Virginia was a member of St. Agnes Church. She worked for the State of IL, Sangamon Elect, JC Penny’s and also owned and operated the Referee Tavern with her husband for many years. She had a love for real estate, was an avid reader, and devoted her entire life to caring for her family.
Visitation: 9-10:45 a.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at St. Agnes Church.
Funeral Service: 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at St. Agnes Church. Rev. Robert Jallas officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
