Virgil H. Hamilton, 92, of Springfield, IL, died at 11:50 p.m., Friday, April 20, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on July 13, 1919 in Eolia, MO to Charles and Russie Trundle Hamilton. He married his wife of 57 years, Beatrice Kelly, on September 23, 1945 and she preceded him in death on April 22, 2003. He is also preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Frances Lovell.
Survivors include his two daughters, Sherry (Michael) Mefford of Springfield and Deborah (Edward-Deceased) Gibbons of Montecito, CA; five grandchildren, Brian (Laura Love) Alley: Kelly (Paul) Moriconi; Tracy Scott; Megan (Zeke) Bass and Elijah Bittleston; five great-grandchildren, Michael; Jackson; Colton; Alexander and Zoe; two nieces, Janet Bankhead and June Lovell.
Virgil retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. He served in the US Army during WWII in the Corp of Engineers in Australia and New Guinea. Virgil was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
Visitation: 10-11am, Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 11am, Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home with Vaughn Beeman officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail.
