Vincent John Capranica
SPRINGFIELD ” Vincent John Capranica, 84, of Springfield, died Sunday, August 12, 2007 at Regency Nursing Care Residence.
He was born May 19, 1923 in Springfield, IL, the son of Silvio and Rose Capranica. He married Jane M. Saccomano on May 5, 1951. His parents, two brothers, and two sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Capranica was a postal clerk for the United States Postal Service. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during WWII, receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a member of the 88th Infantry Division Association, St. Aloysius Church, Knights of Columbus of Devereaux Heights, D.A.V., and Romeo Breakfast Club. He helped write the postal newsletter “The Nixie? and his hobbies included oil painting, wood carving, and gardening.
Survivors: wife, Jane M. Capranica of Springfield; one son, Vincent S. (wife, Dee) Capranica of St. Louis, MO; one daughter, Mary Theresa (husband, Ron) Perce of Chatham; four grandchildren; one brother, Al Capranica of Andrew; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorials may be made to St. Aloysius Church.
Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 15, 2007. Prayers: 4:00 p.m. Services: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 16, 2007 at St. Aloysius Church, Reverend Donald Meehling officiating. Burial: Camp Butler National Cemetery, where Sangamon County Interveterans will conduct military honors. Staab Funeral Home of Service.
