Victoria Alice Houston

Victoria Alice Houston, 102, of Springfield, went to her heavenly home at 5:35 pm, Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Heritage Health. She was born in Springfield, Illinois on December 15, 1913 to Adam and Anna Klemovich Buskis.

Victoria lived in Springfield her entire life. She graduated from Enos Grade School and attended Springfield High School.

She worked for ten years at the International Shoe Factory in the finishing room, before starting her family.

On January 6, 1934, she married Horace Irwin Houston. They were married for 39 years until his death in 1973. They had three daughters: Marilynn, Patricia, and Helen.
Her parents; one daughter Marilynn Houston-White and siblings, Anthony, Joseph, Edward and Anna preceded her in death.

She was a member of St. Cabrini Church.

Her hobbies and interests included playing pinochle and bingo at the Senior Citizens Center for over thirty years, baking apple pies from scratch, and cooking her famous Polish chicken and dressing for her family. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, going to and having garage sales and entering antiques at the Illinois State Fair, where she won many blue ribbons.

Victoria leaves to cherish her memory: daughters, Patricia (husband Roy) Buchanan and Helen Muncy; her grandchildren: Brian (wife, Gayle) Buchanan, Lisa Buchanan, Leslie (husband, Matt) Baker, and Amy (husband, Jeff) Lynn; great grandchildren: Tyler Buchanan, Jordan Buchanan, Brianna Taylor, Brystol (husband, Derek) Kilberg, Levi Lynn, Remi Lynn, Mason Baker, Jackson Baker, Carson Baker, Jamyson Baker; great great granddaughter, Aleeah Taylor and several nieces and nephews, including special niece, Eileen (husband, Jack) Houston/Adams.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to the Heritage Health staff for their care of Victoria for over ten years.

Visitation: 4-7 pm, Sunday, July 31, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield with a prayer service at 4 pm.

Additional visitation 9-10 am, Monday, August 1, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield.

Funeral Mass: 10:30 am, Monday, August 1, 2016 at St. Cabrini Church with Monsignor John Ossola officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Springfield Senior Center – Daily Bread or the Animal Protective League.
