Vernon "Harold" Rouland

Vernon “Harold” Rouland, 92, of Springfield died at 8:00 am Sunday, November 2, 2014 at St. John’s Hospice.  He was born December 1, 1921 in Waverly to Walter and Sarah Elizabeth Miner Rouland. He was raised by foster parents, Walter A. and Lizzie Rouland. He married Vivian Holmes September 10, 1949 and she survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Linda Horn of Springfield; a son, James Walter (Janet) Rouland of Glenarm; five grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and a sister, Vera Mae Rhea.

Harold was a United States Army Veteran serving during World War II.  In his youth, he was a farmer and he later retired from Fiat Allis after thirty years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents and foster parents; a brother, Elvis Rouland; three sisters, Alta Reed, Leona Duewer and Leta Knox and a foster sister, Marie Eldridge.

Visitation: 4 – 7 pm Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home

Funeral Service:  10:00 am Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home with Bill Rhea officiating.  Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
