SPRINGFIELD – Tyron Ty L. Ross, 78, of Springfield, formerly of Streator, died at 5:45 p.m. Sunday, June 14, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born May 3, 1931, in Peoria, the son of
the Rev. Tyron and Gertrude Varvel Ross. He married Betty J. Johnston on Sept. 27, 1953.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard Ross; a sister, Eleanor Novak; and three brothers, Louis, Paul and Dale Ross.
He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Ross of Springfield; a daughter, Lisa (Chris) Rodeghiero of Morton; three sons, Jeffery (Mari) Ross, Patrick Ross and John Ross, all of Springfield; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elsie Kolojay and Dorothy Shepheard, both of Las Vegas and Alta (Jerome) Holohan of Ashkum; several aunts; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ty was a resident of Springfield for the past 40 years. He owned and operated Sally Ward Launders and Cleaners.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran during the Korean War and a member of the Starlight Campers Club. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, tinkering around and was an avid Illini football and basketball fan.
A memorial gathering will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of memorial services at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. A private burial will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
