Thomas “Tom” G. Metzger, 81, of Springfield, died at 10:45 p.m., Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at his home. He was born December 24, 1931, in Springfield to Frank and Marie Fleck Metzger. He married Ramona King on June 5, 1950 and she survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Pamela (Robert) Myers of Maryville, TN and Janet (Michael) Milburn of Springfield; four sons, Gregory (Carol) Metzger of Noblesville, IN, Steve (Teri) Metzger of Springfield, Mark (Jill) Metzger of Tucson, AZ and Paul (Bonnie) Metzger of Scotch Plains, NJ; seventeen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two brothers Frank (Eileen) Metzger of St. Louis, MO and Chares (Elaine) Metzger of San Diego, CA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Katherine Kruzick and one brother-in-law Vince Kruzick.

Tom was a member of Christ the King Church and a Member of Anchor Boat Club. He enjoyed playing cards, boating and skiing and loved spending time with his children and family camping and golfing.

He was an auto mechanic for Ameren CILCO for 25 years, retiring in January 1994, prior to that he worked for 15 years for Friendly Chevrolet.

Visitation: 9-11 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2013 at Christ the King Church.

Funeral Mass: 11 a.m., Friday, October 4, 2013 at Christ the King Church with Reverend Joseph Ring officiating. Private burial will be at Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Home Hospice; Springfield Right to Life or Central Illinois Food Bank.

Ramona and all of Tom’s family would like to thank Regina and all of the staff from Memorial Home Hospice for their care and compassion shown to Tom and the entire family.
