SPRINGFIELD – Thomas P. Tom Sullivan, 76, of Springfield died at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, at St. John’s Hospice.
He was born Feb. 11, 1933, in Quincy, the son of John D. and Dorothy Damhorst Sullivan. He married Mary Joanne Klinner in August of 1957.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Terry Sullivan.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne Jo Sullivan of Springfield; two daughters, Jeannie Sullivan and Kathy Sullivan, both of Springfield; a son, Steve (wife, Sheila) Sullivan of Riverton; two sisters, Pat (husband, Jim) Bangert of Quincy and Mary Alice (husband, Randy) Akers of Columbia, S.C.; four brothers, John (wife, Angie) Sullivan of Cerritos, Calif., Richard (wife, Marjorie) Sullivan of Quincy, Mike (wife, Elaine) Sullivan of Clayton and Tim (wife, Deb) Sullivan of Galesburg; an aunt; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tom was a resident of Springfield since 1965.
He retired from the IRS in 1983 as a special agent for the Criminal Investigation Division. After retirement he worked for the IRSE Credit Union, Renaissance Hotel and IEMA.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church. He enjoyed taking walks with the family dog, Toby. He was a graduate of Quincy College. He was a member of the United States Army serving during the Korean conflict.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 5 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Church, with Monsignor Thomas Holinga officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Calvary Cemetery in Quincy, with the Rev. Roy Bauer officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Quincy American Legion.
