Thomas Lund Butler, 81, of Springfield, died at 7:20 p.m., Friday, December 3, 2010 at his home. He was born May 25, 1929 in Libertyville, IL to Horace Lund and Estelle Davis Butler. He married his wife of 62 years, JoAnn Ferreira on March 19, 1948 and she survives. His parents; one sister, Barbara Reynolds and one brother, John Butler preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Linda S. (husband: Paul) Hayes of Springfield and Lisa Lund Maltby of Virden; six grandchildren, Timothy M. Barrett, Jr., Jamie Lund (husband: Jason) Bowen, Sarah C. Maltby, Ellen Lund Maltby, Brettany L. (husband: Matt) Hummert and Jennifer L. Hayes; two great-grandchildren, Madie and Abigail Bowen; one brother, William J. Butler of Centralia and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tom was a resident of Springfield for most of his life. He was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring on October 2, 1992. He was a United States Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War. Tom was a member of The Elks Club and NALC (National Association of Letter Carriers). He enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards, going on the boat, traveling, gardening, attending shows at Sangamon State Auditorium and was a Red Coat Volunteer for 15 years at Memorial Medical Center.
Memorial Gathering: 4:30 – 6:00 p.m., Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home.
Memorial Service: 6 p.m., Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home beginning with military honors by the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail and followed by a prayer service with Pastor Mark Gifford officiating.
