SPRINGFIELD – Thomas Edward Baird, 80, of Springfield died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, at St. John’s Hospice.
He was born Nov. 29, 1929, in Astoria, the son of William Temple and Maude Elizabeth Stauffer Baird. He married Lois Beard on Sept. 16, 1949.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert Baird.
He is survived by his wife, Lois M.; a daughter,
Kathleen Baird of Springfield; two sons,
Thomas R. Baird of Petersburg and John E. (wife, Bev) Baird of Hudson, Fla.; a granddaughter, Lori (companion, James McCoy) Baird; and two grandsons, Eric and Alex Baird; a brother, Richard Baird of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; a cousin, Leonard Stauffer; and several nieces and nephews.
Thomas was a resident of Springfield for more than 50 years. He retired in July after working for more than 60 years. During his career he worked as a distributor for Kirby Vacuums, a design engineer for Kirby Vacuums in Cleveland, and owned and operated Baird Meter Inc. since October 1977, which produces vacuum cleaner demonstration equipment for Kirby Dealers worldwide.
Thomas was a member of Third Presbyterian Church.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at Third Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Brent Mitchell officiating. Entombment will be at Oak Ridge Chapel Mausoleum.
Memorials may be made to the Third Presbyterian Church.
