Theresa Jane Lewis, 77, of Springfield, died at 12:55 am, Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at St. John’s Hospice. She was born December 22, 1933 in Springfield to George and Amelia Kleban Smith. She married Don E. Lewis on March 6, 1953 and he preceded her in death on January 9, 1995. Also preceding her in death were her parents, four brothers, Tom Smith, Barney James Ely, Edgar Smith and William Ely and one sister Louise Ashley.
Survivors include one daughter Carol Jane Lewis of Springfield; one son, John Edward Lewis of Springfield; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; five sisters Wanda Ely and Mary Ann Redding both of Springfield, Leona Blake of West Palm Beach, FL Helen (Ranaldo Granados) Ely-Granados of Chicago and Caroline Dietrich of Springfield; two brothers John (Berni) Ely and Andy Ely both of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Theresa was a lifelong resident of Springfield. She was a homemaker, worked as a receptionist for Progressive Equipment, she then worked for St. John’s Hospital for 10 years in housekeeping and last worked at Help at Home for 5 years. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church.
Visitation: 5-7 pm, Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4:45 pm. Lie-in-State: 9:30 – 10 am Friday, April 8, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Church.
Funeral Mass: 10 am, Friday, April 8, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Church with Monsignor Thomas Holinga officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Church.
