SPRINGFIELD – Thelma Valentine, 85, a resident of Springfield for most of her life, died at 2:05 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 29, 1924, in Roanoke, the daughter of Fred and Jeanne DesCarpentier Thommen. She married Woodrow Willis Woody Valentine on Sept. 23, 1948; he preceded her in death Dec. 6, 2005.
Mrs. Valentine attended nurses training at Mennonite Nursing School. She also attended Moody Bible Institute. She was a registered nurse at Memorial Medical Center for many years. She was a member of Cherry Hills Baptist Church and Retirees of Memorial Medical Center.
Surviving are a daughter, Colleen Kay (husband, Paul) Paoni of Springfield; a son, Jeffrey Scott Valentine of Springfield; four grandchildren, Lauren (husband, Nick) Tode, Christopher and Brett Paoni and Katie Valentine; two great-grandchildren, Grant and Paige Tode; a sister, Norma (husband, Arthur Salzman) Black of St. Paul, Minn.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home, with Pastor Jeff Nelsen officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
