Thelma Irene Ryan, 85, of Springfield, died and went home to be with the Lord at 8:43 a.m., Saturday, June 29, 2013 at her home. She was born June 11, 1928 in Bond County, IL to William G. and Mary Opal Hemken Fenton. She married Woodbur Darold “Buck” Ryan on February 13, 1949 and he preceded her in death on May 16, 1999. Also preceding her in death were her parents, two granddaughters, two great grandsons and two brothers, Harold and Elmer Fenton.
Survivors include four daughters, Wanda Ryan, Jean (Ron) Ryan-Stine, Vicki (Danny) Bergner all of Springfield and Pamela (Vincent) Kemp of Virden; one son, James Ryan of Springfield; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two sisters, Nadine Hancock and Velma (James) Speed; one sister-in-law, Ruth Fenton; three brothers, Melvin (Nora) Fenton, Marvin (Carol) Fenton and Clarence (Doris) Fenton, one aunt and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Thelma was a member of Washville Baptist Church. She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, crafting and going to flea markets and garage sales.
Thelma worked at Gundy’s Market and then was a cashier at Kent’s Grandview IGA. She also worked for Dr. Pedraza’s office.
Visitation: 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 10:30 am on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home with the Reverend Melvin Fenton officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
