Thecla “Tek’ Catherine Poniske, 91, of Springfield died Saturday May 28, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Home. She was born January 20, 1925 to Melchior and Mary (Louis) Holdener. She married John B. Poniske on November 22, 1945 who preceded her in death on October 3, 1983.
Also preceding her in death are her parents, and one brother, Bud Schanuel.
Survivors include four children, Donna (Don) Boyd of Springfield, Denise (Dave) Miller of Green Bay, WI, John Dan (Jenny) Poniske of Waynesboro, PA, and Jo (Sean) Callahan of Gardner, KS; 12 grandchildren, Trevor (Sherry) Boyd, Nathan (Liz) Boyd, Andrew (Stacey) Boyd, David (Julia) Miller, Emily and Kristin Miller, Erika and John Davis Poniske, Sean Jr., Claire, Adam and Abigail Callahan; six great grandchildren, Allie, Marissa, Miles, Lynae, Harrison, and Zana; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She retired from Sacred Heart Credit Union. Thecla was a Samaritan at St. John’s Hospice since 1984, was a religion class/CCD teacher at St. John Vianney, Sherman and was the “Bunco Lady” at Villa East Nursing Home. She was a good cook, enjoyed traveling, gardening, puzzles and games.
Visitation: 9-10:15 am Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Blessed Sacrament Church.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 am Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Reverend Jeff Grant officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
