SPRINGFIELD – Susan C. Cruse, 88, of Springfield died at 4:55 a.m. on Sunday, November 29, 2009.
She was born October 18, 1921, in Coleraine, County Londonderry, North Ireland, the daughter of Willie and Sarah Deighan Warke.
Susan was educated in North Ireland. During World War II, she worked in war production in Salisbury England. In 1947 Susan came to the United States and settled in Decatur, Illinois.
Susan worked in retail sales until 1951. She married Harry E. Cruse on September 15, 1951, and moved to Springfield, Illinois. As a homemaker she and Harry raised two sons, Dale and Barry.
Susan was active in the Garden Club of Springfield and a life member of Springfield’s Ceramic and Crafts Club. For over fifty years Susan had been a member of the First Congregational Church UCC.
Susan leaves her husband Harry; 2 sons, Dale (wife, Janet) of Chatham and Barry (wife, Lisa) of Wheaton. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Carolyn, Brian, Katie and Kevin; three sisters, Mary Woodward of Oxford, England, and Sadie Hollingsworth and Dorothy Millan of Coleraine, North Ireland; brother-in-law, Donald (wife, Marion) Cruse of Arlington, Texas. She has nieces and nephews in the U.S., Ireland and England.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 3, 2009, at Camp Butler National Cemetery, with Vaughn Beeman officiating.
