Sundino “Sonny” Joseph George, 93, of Riverton, died Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at his home. He was born on July 6, 1924 in Springfield to Joseph and Anna (Simanella) George. On April 2, 1960 he married Jacquetta “Jackie” Bitschenauer.
He served in the United States Army and retired from Allis Chalmers/Fiat Allis after 39 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie; one son, Dino (Janet) George of Springfield; four daughters, Karen George of Riverton, Pamela (Dave) Eberle of Loveland, CO, Connie (Dan) Mancini of Crestview, FL and Dinette George (companion, Larry Gibson) of Springfield; grandchildren, Tina (Jimmy) Files of Spaulding, Jennifer (Jason) Schroeder of Raleigh, NC, Jason Manuele of Springfield, Jason Gibson of Chatham; one sister, Florence Fry of Springfield; ten great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jasper, James and Joe George; sister, Rose Irvin and granddaughter, MaryAnn Gibson.
Visitation: 4 – 7 pm, Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield A prayer service will be held at 4 pm.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 am, Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at St. James Church – Riverton with Reverend Raphael Paul de Moreno officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in St. Louis, MO or Memorial Hospice.

Fond memories of Sonny going to ball games with him and Uncle Vito at Sportsman's Park I will always remember Sonny as a good and decent man.
