Sister Marie Clare Scheible, O.S.F. (91) of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis died on Sunday June 12, 2016 at St. Francis Convent, Springfield, Illinois.
Sister Marie Clare was born in Rochester, New York, on June 27, 1924, the daughter of Anthony and Florence Servatius Scheible. She entered the Congregation on September 8, 1947 and professed her religious vows on June 13, 1950.
In her long life, Sister Marie Clare served as a registered nurse, a clinical nursing instructor, in Hospital Administration and Pastoral Care at HSHS hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin, and as a Massage Therapist in Springfield, Illinois.
Sister graduated from St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing, St. Louis University, St. Louis, Missouri with a BSN, Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio, with an MBA and the Chicago School of Massage Therapy. On March 25, 1965, Sister participated in the Freedom March in Montgomery, Alabama where she heard Dr. Martin Luther King’s famous speech and met him personally.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by a sister, Bernice Reinhardt of Rochester, New York, a niece, nephews, and cousins, as well as her Franciscan Sisters with whom she shared her life for over 68 years.
Visitation will be held on Monday June 13, 2016 at St. Francis Convent from 4:00-7:00 PM with a Wake Service at 6:30 PM on Monday June 13th. The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Andre Schludecker on Tuesday June 14, 2016 at 10:00am in St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at St. Francis Convent. Burial will be in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.
