Shirley M. Canfield, 77, of Pleasant Plains, IL, passed away Wednesday, June 11th, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center.

She was born on March 30th, 1938 in Springfield to Clement and Ellen Click Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Carrie Rogers.

She married Richard Canfield in May of 1975.

Shirley retired from the State of Illinois as Chief Fiscal Officer at Abandoned Mines Reclamation Council and she previously worked at the House of Representatives District Office Allotment.

During her life, Shirley enjoyed camping, boating, motorcycle trips and most of all, spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren. She was a Rock Star Grandma that loved reading books, watching movies and wearing her pajamas. She adored her forever roses in the yard and a good cup of coffee, especially when family showed up. Shirley was a former active member of the Evening Republican Club, Springfield Ski and Boat Club and Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

She is survived by her husband, Richard “Dick”; sons, Henry (Tammy) Long and Fritz (Donna) Long, both of Springfield; grandchildren, Becky (Jason) Barnett, Mike (Melissa) Long, Chris (Cathy) Long, Justin (Jessica) Long, Jake (Stephanie) Long, T.J. Long, Tyler Ostermeier, and Lance (Tiffany) Ostermeier; great-grandchildren, Christian Barnett, Lydia Barnett, Jared Long, Kellan Long and Zoey Ostermeier; 1 brother, Dick Sowers; and 3 sisters, Dee Nissen, Janet Madigan, and Linda Johnson.

Visitation: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home.

Funeral Service: 12:00 p.m., Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Seth Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Farmington Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
