Shirley L. McGrew, 75, of Springfield, died Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born March 16, 1942 in Springfield, to Sherman and Annabelle Hayes Fickas. She married W. Dean McGrew on October 31, 1959 and he preceded her in death on September 21, 1999. Also preceding her in death are her parents; one daughter, Kimberly Ellenburg; one sister Lana Melcher, and two brothers Jim and Danny Fickas.
Survivors include her four children, Deb McGrew McCarthy of Springfield, William McGrew (Lorna Jordan) of Decatur, Brenda (Sam) Morton of Springfield and Christina Esper (John Hankins) of Springfield; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; three sisters, Carolyn Parnell, Linda (Dennis) Morgan, and Tammy (Rick) McLean all of Springfield. Three brothers, Gene (Kathy) Fickas of Springfield, David (Carolyn) Fickas of Mechanicsburg, and John Fickas of Springfield; one uncle and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Shirley was a lifelong resident of Springfield and retired from Cargill as a machine operator. Her favorite hobbies were taking trips to the casino with the girls, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Visitation: 5-7pm Tuesday, March, 28, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 7pm, Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Reverend Doctor Joe Eby officiating.
Graveside Service: 11 am, Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Roselawn Memorial Park
