We were saddened to read of Shirley's passing. My wife was a good friend and they always celebrated their birthdays with lunch, and Mary Jean would come home and tell me how they laughed and laughed, and what a good time she had. Shirley and I were in the class of 1944 at Springfield High School, and also attended one classroom together, the subject of which I forget. Since we saw one another frequently walking our dogs on Andover Drive, we began exchanging birthday cards, and I remember one year she sent me a card that was far removed from my actual birthday, After that we always greeted one another with "Happy Birthday" when meeting on our walks. We were sorry when she and Bob left the neighborhood and tried to reach her at the retirement home but were unsuccessful due to security reasons. Anyway, it was fun while it lasted. Our condolences to the family, and to Shirley we say, "God Speed and Happy Birthday,"--maybe we'll see you on the other side.
