Shirley J. Hazen Hurley Alderson, 77, of Springfield, died at 2:45 am, Monday, May 23, 2011 at St. John’s Hospital. She was born September 23, 1933 in Shelbyville, IL to Helen Moore Hazen. She married James T. Hurley and he preceded her in death, she later married Thomas E. Alderson in 1992 and he preceded her in death in 2002. Also preceding her in death were her mother, Helen Moore Robertson Hazen; two sisters Annie Hazen and Mary Lanners, three half brothers Joe, Herschel and Herbert Robertson and daughter-in-law Carleen Hurley.
Surviving are one daughter, Janelle Roberts of Litchfield; two step-daughters, Nancy Barron of IA and Mary (Jim) Pershing of Calhan, CO; three sons, Robert Scott (Sherry) Hazen, Michael T. (Pat) Hurley and Mark E. (Reta) Hurley all of Springfield; two step-sons, James Hurley of Springfield and Douglas (Carol) Hurley of Greenview, IL; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, two sisters Freda Hish of Wood Dale, IL and Barbara (Rudy) Steigerwald of Chicago, one brother Robert Hazen of Ft. Worth, TX and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Shirley attended Knox Presbyterian Church and had worked for Kent’s IGA for sixteen years and for Eagle Foods for seven years. She was a member of the Retail Clerks Union.
Visitation: 5 – 7 pm, Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 11 am, Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with Kathy Swaar, CLP officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.
