Sharon L. Smithers, 83, of Springfield, passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021 at St. John’s Hospital. She was born October 24, 1937, in Springfield, the daughter of Milton A. and Goldie (Losey) Thomas. She married Gary Smithers on April 28, 1971, and he preceded her in death on April 14, 2005.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Dennis McCulley; step-sons, Gary Smithers, Jr. and John Smithers; brother, William Thomas; and sister, Jeanne Rosa.
Sharon is survived by one daughter, Susan (Sean) Lynn Hunter of Fort Myers, FL; one son, Thomas Lynn of Springfield; one daughter-in-law, Shari Lynn of Springfield; two step-daughters, Brenda Smithers of Springfield and Susan (Jim) Powell of Litchfield; two step-sons, Robert (Barbara) Smithers of Springfield and Bill (Joanna) Lynn of Riverwoods; one brother-in-law, Dominic Rosa of Rochester; one sister-in-law, Sue Thomas of Springfield; eleven grandchildren, Jeff (Amy) Lynn, Bobby Smithers, Johnny Smithers, Raven Smithers, Joe Smithers, Frankie Smithers, Kaitlyn Smithers, Aimee Lynn, Alivia Carrigan, Vivian Smithers, and Zachariah Hunter; and several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She retired from Horace Mann in the marketing and accounting divisions after twenty nine years of service and was also a lifelong caregiver.
Sharon was a member of Third Presbyterian Church, Cool Crusers Car Club and USS C.J. Badger Association. She enjoyed singing, soduku and crossword puzzles.
Visitation: 11:30 am – 12:30 pm, Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 12:30 pm, Tuesday, October, 19, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, with Reverend Kevin Mann officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Bob, my sincerest condolences to you and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. You probably don't remember but we were neighbors for many years. Mostly I remember Halloween and your costumes. I can still see you dressed in costume.
