Sharon L. Broughton, 77, of Springfield, died at 8:25 am, Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 20, 1933 in Jacksonville, Illinois to Clarence and Eileen Roper Alderman.
Her father; mother, Eileen McCune; step-father, Carl McCune; grandparents and several aunts and uncles preceded her in death.
She married Donald D. Broughton on July 15, 1951 and he survives. Also surviving are six children; Denise (Chris) Harney of Springfield, Pamela (Doug) Barringer of Springfield, Donald (Debbie) Broughton, II of Springfield, Gary (Mary) Broughton of Auburn, Phillip Broughton of Springfield and Jennifer Broughton of Springfield; seven grandchildren Breanne Harney, Emily (Ryan) Thomas, Justin Barringer, Amber Broughton, Eric Broughton, Donald Broughton, III and Marissa (Justin) Graves and two cousins Charles (Karen) Butzback and Mary Don (Frank) Dundrea.
Sharon was a resident of Springfield for most of her life. She was a 1951 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy.She was affectionately known as “Mini Mom”. She served as the first woman President of Illinois Quarter Horse Association from 1986-1988 and again from 1992-1998. She was a member of the Garden Club in Venice, FL and volunteered for many organizations including Senator Larry Bomke and Sangamon County Republican Women. She taught horse and pony riding in Val-e-Vue and was an active board member of the West Sangamon Republican Club. Her favorite activity of the Club was the annual Easter Egg Hunt, which she founded. She enjoyed her vacation home in Florida with her family.
Before retiring she was the Office Manager for P.H. Broughton & Sons for 20 years.

Funeral Service: 11 am, Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend David A. Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Old Salem Cemetery
