SPRINGFIELD – Sarah J. Peggy Applegate, 86, of Springfield died at 9 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2009, at St. John’s Hospice.
She was born Aug. 16, 1922, in Springfield, the daughter of Nicholas J. and Hattie G. Bergaman Hoffman. She married Russell L. Applegate Oct. 4, 1941.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell Applegate on Dec. 10, 2001; sisters, Bertha, Martha, Mildred, Claire, and Pauline; brothers, Nicholas, Eugene, and Robert; granddaughter, Anita Murray; and grandson, David Robison.
Mrs. Applegate was a lifelong resident of Springfield and a homemaker. She was a lifetime member of Concordia Lutheran Church, and the VFW Auxiliary.
Surviving are six daughters, Sandra (James) Murray, of Springfield, Beverly (Albert) Penney of Tasmania, Sheryl (Robert) Robison of East Peoria, Toni Irwin of Springfield, Tracie (Ron) McCleskey of Los Lunas, NM, and Cynthia Angeli of Springfield; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank (Julie) Hoffman of San Diego, CA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. A
lie-in-state will be held from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Friday with a funeral service to follow at 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2009, at Concordia Lutheran Church with the Rev. James Hennig and Dr. Michael Koschmann officiating.
Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery. Memorials to Concordia Lutheran Church.
