SPRINGFIELD – Samuel B. Eubanks, 83, of Springfield died at 8:58 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Villa Health Care East in Sherman, IL. He was born on November 20, 1926, in Olney, IL, to Ruel and Florence Felix Eubanks.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers. He is survived by a daughter, Susan Eubanks (partner, Bruce Rimbey) of Springfield; a son, Robert H. Eubanks (wife, Sachiko) of Geneva, IL; a grandson, Sam H. Eubanks of Geneva; and several nieces and nephews.
Sam was a veteran of the United States Army. He graduated with a master’s degree in political science from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He taught high school and junior college from 1950-1966 and received a law degree from St. Louis University in 1961. Sam served as an administrative assistant to Governor Otto Kerner, Governor Sam Shapiro and Mayor Nelson Howarth. He retired from the State Board of Education in 1988. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of The Rail for many years.
At his wishes, a memorial gathering will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home. A private memorial service will be held. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
