SPRINGFIELD – Ruth A. Morris, 96, of Springfield, formerly of Taylorville, died at 8:35 p.m. on Monday, March 1, 2010, at St. John’s Hospice.
She was born October 6, 1913, in Barry, IL to the late James and Martha Kloppie Ogden. She married James W. Spot Mitchelson; he preceded her in death on April 12, 1959. She then married Frederick W. Morris; he preceded her in death on December 4, 1984.
She was also preceded in death by 2 daughters, Betty Jane Ferguson and Dorothy Solomons; one son, James Mitchelson; two grandsons; one sister; and four brothers.
Ruth is survived by one son, Robert J. (Bonnie) Mitchelson of Taylorville; three daughters, Patricia R. Taylor and Donna M. (Arthur) Brown, both of Diamondhead, MS and Marlene Morris of Springfield; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where she was active with The Quilters. She also volunteered at Lewis Memorial Christian Village, The Springfield Muni Opera and the New Salem Theatre. Ruth was a seamstress and loved to sew, and do needlework. She also enjoyed painting, fishing, reading, playing cards and board games.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. A Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Marty Mably officiating. Burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.
