SPRINGFIELD – Ruby Bradley Stewart, 101, of Springfield died at 6:55 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 2010, at Regency Nursing Home.
She was born Oct. 16, 1908, in Grove City, the daughter of Roland and Ruby Dot Dickerson Bradley. She married Russell E. ‘Dick’ Stewart on July 2, 1949; he preceded her in death in 1993.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her friend, Doris M. Behrens of Springfield; four nieces, Marjorie Hartman, Marian Webb, Phyllis Rude, and Ruth Cheesman; and two cousins.
Ruby was a resident of Springfield since 1928. She worked for City Water Light and Power and retired from Gietl Brothers Inc., where she worked from 1955 to 1971 as a bookkeeper.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Wesleyan University in Bloomington and attended Illiopolis and Springfield schools. She was also a member of AARP and Sangamon County AARP and the Friendship Club of Salvation Army.
Visitation will be from noon until the time of funeral services at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to First United Methodist Church, Shriners Children’s Hospital of St. Louis or the Illiopolis Methodist Church.
