Ross P. Barnes
SPRINGFIELD – Ross P. Barnes, 81, of Springfield, died Monday, September 3, 2007 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg, IL.
He was born November 8, 1925 in East St. Louis, IL, the son of Ross and Beulah Jeffries Barnes and stepmother, Lula. He married Gloria A. McGregor on February 12, 1944. His father, mother, stepmother, and one sister, Marjorie Williams, preceded him in death.
Mr. Barnes was formerly employed at Land of Lincoln Bank and Bank of Johnston City. He was a member of First Church of Christ Scientist, AM & AM, Ansar Shrine. He was a United States Navy veteran serving during WWII. He loved flying and had his private pilot’s license. He also enjoyed camping and belonged to Good Sam’s Camping Club, Rotary Club-Johnston City, and St. Louis Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and baseball, and was a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.
Survivors: wife, Gloria A. Barnes of Springfield; three daughters, Janet (husband, Dennis) Strader of St. Louis, MO, Bonnie (husband, Larry) Johnsen of Geneseo, and Kathy (husband, Edward Schultz) McGuire of Springfield; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 6, 2007. Burial: 3:00 p.m., Thursday, September 6, 2007 at Lakeview Memorial Garden in Fairview Heights, IL. Staab Funeral Home of Service.
