ATHENS – Ross Gregory Hickey, 68, of Athens, died Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at St. John’s Hospice.

He was born December 10, 1938 in Plainfield, IL, the son of John and Mildred Henderson Hickey. He married Divinia Dee Menendez on October 6, 1973. His parents; his twin brother, Russ, and brothers, John and Pat Hickey; and sister, Loraine Dixon, preceded him in death.

Mr. Hickey retired from the State of Illinois after 23 years of service with the Secretary of State Physical Services Department. He was a salesman for Hub Clothiers for 16 years and worked for Certified Equipment Company as a welder for nine years. He was a U.S. Army veteran and of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed camping and gardening, but his real enjoyment was the St. Louis Cardinals and his dog, Otis.

Survivors: wife, Divinia Dee Hickey of Athens; three daughters, Carol (husband, John) Willey of Springfield, Farrah (husband, Steve) Reagon of Athens, and Bea Jay (husband, Randy) Kendall of Berlin; one son, Larry Needham, Jr. of Athens; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Josephine Tsopelakos of Athens, Melva Ann Hickey of Jacksonville, and Mildred Midge (husband, Jim) Heise of Lebanon; one brother, Floyd Hickey of California; one aunt; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 9, 2007. Services: 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 10, 2007. Burial: Camp Butler National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted. Staab Funeral Home of Service.
