SPRINGFIELD – Rosella Rose McKinney of Springfield died at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 2, 2010, at her daughter’s home in Texas. She was born July 28, 1920, in Carlinville, Illinois, to William and Ida Glass McQuire. She married Eugene McKinney on October 15, 1936, and he preceded her in death. She resided in Springfield most of her life.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Rosemary (Richard) Carraher of Copperas Cove, TX, and Sandra Jean Challans of Springfield; 1 son, Charles Eugene (Vicky) McKinney of Alma, Illinois; 8 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Rose was a charter member of Riverton Eagles Auxiliary Aerie 4631 and a member of American Legion Auxiliary 133 in Temple, TX. She was an avid fisherman, loved camping, gardening and drinking beer.
She was a homemaker; bartender at East End Tavern in Riverton for 3 years; worked for St. John’s Sanitarium for 2 years in the kitchen and also worked in Edinburg at Sam & Louie’s.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 7, 2010, at Staab Funeral with Pastor Bennie Fisher officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.
