DAWSON – Rose M. Harrison, 70, of Dawson died at 11:36 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at her residence.
She was born on Oct. 16, 1938, in Springfield, the daughter of Jerome and Mary Etta Moon Gilbert. She married Bill Mathews in 1957, and he preceded her in death in 1981. She married Nial Harrison in 1983, and he preceded her in death in 2001. She also was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by two daughters, Lisa (husband: Chris) Highley of Dawson and Cindy (husband: Jim) Mitchell of Pleasant Plains; one son, Robert (girlfriend: Jill Dozier) Mathews of Dawson; five grandchildren, Jennifer Brand, Billy (companion: Kim Foster) Brand, Blake, Joshua and Nathan Highley; and four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was a resident of the Springfield and Dawson area most of her life. She was the owner of Bill Mathews Auto Body. She was of the Methodist faith. She enjoyed shopping, traveling, cooking and attended the Citizens Police Academy. She was an avid listener to her police scanner. One of her greatest loves was caring for her family and grandchildren. She also was an organ donor.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. The Rev. Dan Dexter will be officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to a fund for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s college education c/o Illinois National Bank.
