Ronald “Ron” E. Sporrer, Sr., 75, of Springfield, died at 4:57 pm, Monday, July 4, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born April 24, 1941 in Pontiac, to Max C. and Jacqueline Decker Sporrer. He married Judy Ann Rhymes on February 1, 1964 and she survives.
Also surviving are five children, Ronald E. (Tammy) Sporrer, Jr. of Janesville, WI, Michael Charles Sporrer, Cindy S. Miller, Shane A. Sporrer and Lorie A. Sporrer all of Springfield; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister, Vickie S. Sporrer of Pontiac; one brother Larry C. (Diane) Sporrer of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Cindy and Cheryl Sporrer.
Ron was US Navy veteran. He worked as a manager for over thirty years with the Department of Agriculture.
He loved the Chicago Bears and the St. Louis Cardinals. He enjoyed animals; gambling, fishing; hunting; gardening; reading and collecting. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a former member of the DAV.
Visitation: 5-7 pm, Friday, July 8, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield. A private family service will be held at a later date.
