Ronald H. Jennings, 67, of Springfield, IL, died at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2014. He was born on July 31, 1947 in Quincy, IL to Herbert and Anna Christner Jennings. Ronald married Mamie Murphy on September 9, 1979.
Ronald is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Angela Marie Jennings and one infant sister, Patricia Ann.
Surviving are Ronald’s wife, Mamie; three sons, Brandon (Dawn), of Springfield, Aaron (Gayle) of Buffalo, and Chad (Sarah) of Springfield; three grandchildren, Jade, Cassidy and Elliott; one sister, Doris Pasilis of Friendswood, TX; two brothers, Donald (Mary) of Mt. Sterling, and John (Mary) of Timewell; two aunts; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ronald belonged to Buffalo Hart Presbyterian Church. He was a 1965 graduate of Lanphier High School. He served with the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He had his commercial pilot’s license, enjoyed Harleys, and loved watching Sprint Car Races. Ronald’s greatest joy, though, was spending time with his family and grandkids, and he enjoyed helping others. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, AOPA, past President of the Riverton Eagles Club, IL Pilots Association and EAA.
Mr. Jennings worked for IDOT as a Highway Maintainer from 1998-present. He formerly worked at Turris Coal Co. and had also worked with his dad at the family excavating business. He previously owned and operated Wagon Works Service Station and had worked for Siciliano as a heavy equipment operator.
Visitation: 4:00-7:00 pm, Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 10:00 am, Monday, December 22, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Mary Jessup officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery where military honors will be conducted. Memorial contributions may be made to a college fund for his grandchildren.
